During his distinguished thirty-year career in the Australian Army, David Mead experienced the carnage and trauma of war at first hand, in Vietnam, then in Cambodia. His depth of feeling for and understanding of the plight and suffering of the Cambodian people and for the lot of the ordinary soldier shine through his words. After leaving the army, he returned to Cambodia to work in the field of forest and wildlife conservation.
